Cabinet Approves Rs. 2817 Crore Digital Agriculture Mission to Revolutionize Farming.
New Delhi:
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission with a substantial outlay of Rs. 2817 Crore, including a central share of Rs. 1940 Crore. This initiative aims to transform the agriculture sector through advanced digital technologies.
The mission, set to enhance digital infrastructure for agriculture, includes the creation of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the implementation of key projects such as the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES). It is designed to support digital agriculture initiatives at various levels, including Central and State Governments, and academic and research institutions.
Key components of the mission include AgriStack, a comprehensive farmer-centric digital platform providing services such as digital IDs, and the Krishi Decision Support System, which will unify geospatial data on crops, soil, and weather. Additionally, the Soil Profile Mapping project aims to develop detailed soil maps for the entire country.
The mission is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, with an estimated 2.5 lakh local youths and Krishi Sakhis benefiting from the digital crop surveys and data collection efforts. The DPI will facilitate efficient service delivery to farmers, including access to government schemes, crop loans, and real-time advisories.
By leveraging modern technologies like AI and remote sensing, the Digital Agriculture Mission aims to make agricultural service delivery more transparent and efficient, ultimately benefiting farmers and enhancing India’s agricultural sector.
