Himachal CM urges PM’s support for green initiatives.

Shimla:
In a crucial meeting today, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek support for the state’s ambitious green energy initiatives. CM Sukhu highlighted Himachal’s strides towards becoming a fully green state and emphasised the need for central assistance to achieve this goal.
During the meeting, CM Sukhu apprised PM Modi of Himachal Pradesh’s plans to transition entirely to green energy, including the adoption of electric buses and the development of a 1000 MW hybrid solar and wind energy project in Spiti. He requested approval for RIDF loans under NABARD to fund the procurement of electric buses, crucial for reducing the state’s carbon footprint.
Addressing longstanding power-related issues, CM Sukhu raised concerns over pending arrears from BBMB and advocated for the restoration of Shanan Project rights. He also sought a favorable decision regarding free power royalty in projects under SJVN and NHPC.
In addition to environmental concerns, CM Sukhu discussed initiatives to boost tourism, with a focus on developing Kangra as the state’s tourism capital. He proposed expanding Kangra airport, requesting 50% land acquisition support from the Centre and a special grant for its expansion. Furthermore, he suggested the establishment of a Tourism SEZ to stimulate economic growth and job creation in Himachal Pradesh.
Prime Minister Modi assured CM Sukhu of his full support, acknowledging the state’s efforts and promising substantial assistance to recover from recent monsoon-induced losses.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty.
