PM Modi Participates in Somnath Amrut Mahotsav, Calls Somnath Temple Symbol of India’s Eternal Spirit.
Gujarat:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in the grand celebrations of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years since the inauguration of the restored Somnath Temple. Addressing a large gathering at the temple complex in Gujarat, the Prime Minister described the historic temple as a timeless symbol of unwavering faith, divinity, and India’s eternal soul.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said the restoration and consecration of Somnath Temple in 1951 was not merely a religious event but a declaration of India’s independent spirit and cultural resurgence after Independence. He remarked that while India attained political freedom in 1947, the reconstruction of Somnath proclaimed the nation’s civilizational confidence to the world.
Recalling the temple’s long history of destruction and reconstruction, Modi said invaders repeatedly tried to destroy Somnath by viewing it merely as a physical structure. However, he emphasized that the temple rose again after every attack, symbolizing the resilience of Indian civilization and spiritual consciousness. He noted that the rebuilding of Somnath not only restored a temple but also erased the humiliation of centuries.
The Prime Minister highlighted the contributions of leaders such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and K M Munshi in the reconstruction of the temple. He said their efforts reflected India’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage for future generations.
Modi also linked the occasion with the anniversary of India’s Pokhran nuclear tests conducted on May 11, 1998, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said the tests demonstrated India’s scientific strength and national resolve despite global pressure.
Highlighting the government’s efforts in preserving spiritual and cultural heritage, the Prime Minister referred to the redevelopment of Kedarnath, Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Mahakal Mahalok, the Chardham project, Kartarpur Corridor and the Buddhist Circuit. He said cultural centres are not obstacles to development but engines of economic growth and social transformation.
Calling Somnath a guiding inspiration for the next thousand years, Modi urged citizens to remain connected to their roots while carrying forward the nation’s cultural and spiritual legacy.
