Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today reviewed the progress of two major urban infrastructure projects — the Sabzi Mandi Central Business District (CBD) Project in Shimla and the proposed City Centre Project in Hamirpur — aimed at transforming urban infrastructure and easing congestion in key towns of the state.

Chairing a meeting of the Urban Development Department, the Chief Minister said the state government is working towards developing world-class commercial and economic hubs equipped with modern facilities, smart parking systems, and eco-friendly public spaces. He stated that the projects would not only decongest urban centres but also strengthen institutional infrastructure and generate sustainable revenue through commercial development.

Reviewing the Rs. 330 crore Sabzi Mandi CBD Project in Shimla, Sukhu said the project would be executed in two phases. An amount of Rs. 210 crore would be spent in the first phase, of which Rs. 160 crore has already been released to the Municipal Corporation Shimla and the Public Works Department.

The Chief Minister directed the Municipal Corporation to ensure the vacation of 53 residential units, six sheds, the SJPNL office by May 11, the office of the councillor and Food Security Office by May 15, and five shops by May 21, 2026. He instructed the Public Works Department to complete demolition and site clearance by July 11, 2026, and directed authorities to finalize the tendering process by August 2026.

Sukhu also reviewed the proposed Rs. 140 crore City Centre Project at Hamirpur, which will come up after dismantling the existing bus stand once the new bus stand becomes operational. He said Rs. 80 crore has already been approved, while the remaining funds would be arranged through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Detailed Project Report for the project has already been prepared.

The Chief Minister said notices would soon be issued by Himachal Road Transport Corporation to occupants for vacating the premises. He directed the Public Works Department to complete the tendering process within one month after the site is cleared.

Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Principal Secretary Urban Development Devesh Kumar, HRTC Managing Director Dr. Nipun Jindal, Director Urban Development Neeraj Kumar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
