Congress Secures Control of Rohru Municipal Council; MLA Mohan Lal Brakta Calls It Strong Mandate in Party’s Favour.

The Congress party has emerged victorious in the Rohru Municipal Council elections, securing a clear majority with six Congress-supported candidates winning across various wards. The results are being seen as a significant political boost for the ruling party in the Rohru Assembly constituency of Shimla district.

Following the victory, Congress MLA from Rohru, Mohan Lal Brakta said the election outcome reflects a strong mandate in favour of the Congress party. He stated that Congress not only performed impressively in the Rohru Municipal Council elections but also registered success in the Chirgaon Nagar Panchayat polls.

Brakta expressed confidence that the Congress party would continue its strong performance in the upcoming Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections in the Rohru Assembly constituency. He credited party workers, local leadership, and voters for the victory, stating that the public has endorsed the developmental policies and grassroots connect of the Congress.

Congress-Supported Candidates Dominate Polls

Among the winners, Congress-backed candidates secured victories in six wards, while one BJP-supported candidate and two independents also emerged victorious.

In Ward No. 1 (Dashalni and Seri), BJP-supported former Nagar Panchayat president Rama Devi won the election by securing 209 votes. Her rivals Vrinda Jilta received 153 votes, Rajvanti secured 104 votes, and Vikrama Devi got 53 votes.

Ward No. 2 (Upper Bazaar) witnessed a close contest between independent candidate Parul and Usha Sharma. Parul secured victory with 116 votes, narrowly defeating Usha Sharma, who polled 100 votes.

From Ward No. 3 (Main Bazaar), Congress-supported candidate Sujay Agrawal registered an emphatic win with 266 votes against Ranjana Retka, who secured 146 votes.

In Ward No. 4 (Samala), Ranjeeta won the seat by polling 122 votes, while her opponent Reetu secured 103 votes.

Ward No. 5 (Bus Stand area) saw the victory of Raj Kumar Nitu, President of the Himachal Pradesh Kabaddi Association and former Nagar Panchayat president. He won with 79 votes, defeating Rajesh Chand, who received 54 votes.

In Ward No. 6 (Block area), Preeti Chauhan secured victory with 124 votes. Bina Devi got 33 votes, while three voters opted for NOTA.

Jitender Chauhan emerged victorious from Ward No. 7 (Court Road area) with 113 votes. His rival Saurav Tanta received 30 votes, while six votes were cast in favour of NOTA.

Ward No. 8 (Bawtinalla) turned out to be the most closely contested seat of the election. Pyare Lal Azad won the ward with 153 votes, narrowly defeating Panna Lal, who secured 140 votes, while Sohan Lal received 97 votes.

In Ward No. 9 (Shakti Nagar), independent candidate Shalu Dutta emerged victorious with 131 votes. Simran Kaur secured 42 votes and Sunita Devi received 56 votes.

Women Employees Praised for Smooth Conduct of Elections

The election process was conducted peacefully and efficiently, with women employees playing a key role throughout polling and counting operations. SDM Dharmesh Ramotra praised the dedication and professionalism of female staff members, stating that they carried out every responsibility with discipline and efficiency.

He said the successful conduct of the elections reflected both effective administrative coordination and the growing participation of women in democratic and administrative processes. The administration described the elections as a positive example of women empowerment and responsible civic participation.

Political observers believe the Congress victory in Rohru and Chirgaon has further strengthened the party’s organisational base in the region and given fresh momentum to its preparations for upcoming local body and PRI elections in Shimla district.
