NCC Expands National Reach with New Directorates in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
New Delhi:
In a major move aimed at strengthening youth development and expanding the reach of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the Headquarters Directorate General NCC has approved the establishment of independent State Directorates in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. The decision increases the total number of NCC State Directorates across the country from 17 to 19.
The creation of the two new directorates marks a significant milestone in enhancing the administrative and operational capabilities of the NCC, the world’s largest uniformed youth organization. Officials stated that the move will bring the organization closer to cadets and educational institutions in both states, ensuring more effective coordination, supervision, and implementation of training and developmental activities.
The newly established directorates are expected to improve access to NCC programmes, provide stronger administrative support, and facilitate the development of better training infrastructure. This will create greater opportunities for students and young people in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand to participate in leadership, discipline, and nation-building activities conducted under the NCC framework.
The decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering India’s youth and preparing them to become confident, responsible, and socially committed citizens. By strengthening the NCC’s presence at the state level, the government aims to provide more young people with opportunities to develop leadership skills, character, and a spirit of service towards the nation.
Since its establishment in 1948 with an initial strength of just 20,000 cadets, the NCC has witnessed remarkable growth. Today, the organization boasts a strength of more than 20 lakh cadets spread across over 750 districts in the country. Between 2014 and 2025 alone, the NCC added nearly six lakh cadets, reflecting its growing popularity and importance among India’s youth.
Officials noted that the expansion of the administrative structure will help the organization better manage its increasing strength while ensuring quality training and mentorship. The move is also expected to contribute significantly to the government’s broader objective of building a skilled, disciplined, and socially responsible youth population.
With the addition of the Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand Directorates, the NCC is poised to further strengthen its role in nation-building, youth empowerment, and community service, contributing towards the vision of a stronger, more capable, and Viksit Bharat.
