McLaren Announces £500 Million UK Investment, Plans 1,000 New Jobs by 2032.
Major Expansion to Strengthen Britain’s Automotive Manufacturing Sector and Support New Vehicle Development.
London:
The United Kingdom’s automotive industry is set for a significant boost after high-performance car manufacturer McLaren Automotive announced plans to invest £500 million in its UK operations and create around 1,000 new high-quality jobs by 2032.
The investment is expected to strengthen McLaren’s presence in the UK, support advanced manufacturing and create new opportunities across the company’s domestic supply chain.
The announcement forms part of wider efforts to encourage private-sector investment, expand manufacturing capacity and support economic growth across Britain.
Future Models to Be Built in the UK
McLaren has committed to keeping the production of all its current and new models in the UK. The company said the decision would create new export opportunities in international markets while providing additional business for companies across its supply chain.
As part of its expansion plans, McLaren intends to manufacture future engines in-house for the first time. The company also plans to broaden its product portfolio with the development of a performance SUV, marking a significant expansion of its range.
The investment is expected to reinforce the UK’s position as a major global centre for high-performance automotive engineering and manufacturing.
Government Welcomes Investment
The UK Government welcomed McLaren’s investment, describing it as a major contribution to the country’s automotive sector and wider industrial ambitions.
During a visit to McLaren, the Business Secretary and First Secretary of State are scheduled to meet senior company leaders, apprentices and workers before touring the manufacturer’s facilities and production lines.
The announcement comes just days after Downing Street hosted a roundtable and reception with business leaders focused on strengthening cooperation between government and industry.
The discussions centred on ways to unlock investment, create high-quality employment and expand economic opportunities across the country as part of the Government’s commitment to working with businesses to support growth.
Focus on Jobs, Skills and Advanced Manufacturing
McLaren’s planned expansion is expected to support the development of advanced manufacturing skills while creating new employment opportunities.
The company said its investment would provide a platform to expand its operations, develop the next generation of vehicles and strengthen Britain’s global competitiveness in the automotive sector.
The Government has also highlighted the importance of providing businesses with greater certainty and stable conditions to encourage long-term investment and planning.
McLaren CEO Highlights UK Commitment
Nick Collins, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Group Holdings and McLaren Automotive, said the company was investing in both the future of McLaren and advanced manufacturing in the UK.
He said the investment would provide the platform needed for the company to grow, develop its next generation of cars and build on its distinctive capabilities, while strengthening skills and employment and contributing to Britain’s global competitiveness.
The £500 million commitment is expected to have an impact beyond McLaren’s own facilities, with increased production and development activity likely to support businesses and specialist manufacturers across its UK supply chain.
With new models, in-house engine production and a performance SUV planned, the investment represents a major expansion of McLaren’s long-term manufacturing and product strategy in Britain.
