Government Invites Applications for Chairperson, Members of National Sports Board.

New Delhi:

In a significant step towards strengthening governance and accountability in Indian sports, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has invited applications for the appointment of a Chairperson and two Members of the National Sports Board (NSB), a newly constituted body under the National Sports Governance framework.

The recruitment process is being undertaken in accordance with the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026. According to an official notification issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, the appointments will be made by the Central Government based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026.

The Ministry stated that individuals of proven ability, integrity and standing, possessing knowledge or practical experience in public administration, sports governance, sports law, or related fields, are eligible to apply for these key positions.

The National Sports Board is expected to play a pivotal role in the country’s sporting ecosystem. As the central authority for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies, the Board will oversee compliance with governance norms, financial transparency and ethical standards. The establishment of the NSB is aimed at ensuring greater accountability, professionalism and good governance across sports federations and organizations operating in the country.

Officials said that the Board would serve as a regulatory and oversight institution to promote transparency and strengthen institutional mechanisms within the sports sector. It is also expected to help align the functioning of National Sports Bodies with internationally accepted governance practices.

The salary, allowances and other terms and conditions of service for the Chairperson and Members will be governed by the provisions laid down in the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026.

Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the online portal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The last date for submission of applications is July 22, 2026.

The move marks another important milestone in the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, which seeks to bring greater transparency, accountability and efficiency to sports administration in India while strengthening the country’s sports governance framework.
