Alaknanda Handa Appointed Chairperson of Mandi Child Welfare Committee.

The Himachal Pradesh Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has issued a notification appointing the Chairperson and Members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in various districts of the state under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the Himachal Pradesh Juvenile Justice Rules, 2026.
As per the notification, Alaknanda Handa has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Mandi District Child Welfare Committee. The committee members include Manveer Singh, Vijay Kumar Kanav, Chunni Lal Awasthi, and Prem Singh Rana.
According to the government orders, all appointments will remain effective for a period of three years from the date of issuance of the notification.
The Child Welfare Committee plays a crucial role in matters related to the care, protection, rehabilitation, and welfare of children. The committee will discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the rules framed thereunder.
The notification states that the Chairperson and Members will perform their duties and responsibilities as prescribed under Section 30 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Rule 17 of the Himachal Pradesh Juvenile Justice Rules, 2026. The appointments are being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening the child protection system in the state.
Alaknanda Handa is also an elected councillor of Mandi Municipal Corporation, who won the election as an independent candidate when Congress denied party ticket to her.
