Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur held a courtesy meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Omar Abdullah today, during which the leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the education sector, with a special focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by hill states.

The meeting centred on enhancing educational outcomes in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, two states that share similar mountainous terrain and geographical conditions. The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including the existing education system, innovative teaching practices, emerging challenges, and policy reforms aimed at improving access to quality education.

Rohit Thakur said the objective of the interaction was to ensure that students in both states receive modern, inclusive, and high-quality education despite the logistical and infrastructural challenges posed by difficult geographical conditions. He emphasized the importance of adopting innovative approaches and sharing best practices to strengthen school education in remote and rural areas.

The meeting also explored opportunities for greater collaboration between the two states in implementing educational innovations, improving learning infrastructure, and developing policies that cater to the specific needs of students studying in hilly regions.

Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Masood Itoo was also present during the meeting. Senior officials from the education departments of both states, along with other dignitaries, participated in the discussions.

Describing the interaction as meaningful and constructive, Rohit Thakur expressed confidence that the dialogue would pave the way for stronger coordination between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in the field of education. He said the exchange of ideas and experiences would contribute to the formulation of effective policies and reforms, ultimately benefiting students and strengthening the education systems of both states.

The meeting is expected to serve as a significant step towards fostering inter-state cooperation and promoting educational excellence in two Himalayan states that face similar developmental and geographical challenges.
