PM Modi Embarks on Three-Nation Visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand to Deepen Strategic Partnerships.
New Delhi:
The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that he will undertake a three-nation official visit to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to 11, 2026, aimed at strengthening India’s strategic, economic, and people-to-people ties across the Indo-Pacific region.
Visit to Indonesia (July 6–8)
At the invitation of the President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, the Prime Minister will begin his tour in Indonesia. The visit marks an important milestone following the elevation of bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
The Prime Minister noted that this will be his first bilateral visit after Indonesia hosted the President as Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2025. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation across defence, maritime security, trade, and cultural exchanges.
During his stay, the Prime Minister will also engage with the Indian diaspora in Indonesia and visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta along with President Subianto, highlighting the deep civilizational links between the two nations.
Visit to Australia (July 8–10)
From Indonesia, the Prime Minister will travel to Melbourne at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the India–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with discussions likely covering defence and security cooperation, trade and investment, education, mobility, and emerging technologies. Collaboration in sports and sports science is also on the agenda.
The Prime Minister will also interact with the Indian diaspora in Australia, which he described as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship.
Visit to New Zealand (July 10–11)
The final leg of the visit will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, at the invitation of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
The visit is expected to build on the momentum generated by the New Zealand Prime Minister’s visit to India in March 2025. Key discussions will focus on enhancing trade, economic cooperation, and commercial linkages, including the ongoing engagement on a Free Trade Agreement.
The Prime Minister will also address members of the Indian community in New Zealand, acknowledging their contribution across various fields.
Strategic Outlook
The Prime Minister stated that the visit, spanning the eastern and southern Indian Ocean region, will further advance India’s Act East Policy, the MAHASAGAR vision, and the broader goal of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
The tour is expected to reinforce India’s diplomatic outreach and deepen partnerships with key Indo-Pacific nations amid evolving global geopolitical and economic dynamics.
