Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris Pay Emotional Tribute to Kargil Martyrs at Sarkaghat in Mandi.

A solemn Kargil Vijay Diwas ceremony was organised by the United Front of Ex-Servicemen (JCOs/OR) Unit Sarkaghat at Central Park near the Old Bus Stand, where hundreds of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, families of martyrs and local residents paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Unit President Ashok Kumar Sharma, with United Front of Ex-Servicemen JCOs/OR Himachal Pradesh President Jagdish Chand Verma attending as the chief guest.
The ceremony began at 10:30 am with the unfurling of the National Flag by Jagdish Chand Verma and Ashok Kumar Sharma with full military honours. After paying salute to the Tricolour, participants offered floral wreaths at the memorial to honour the immortal martyrs of the Kargil conflict.
The atmosphere turned patriotic as the gathering raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Shaheed Amar Rahein”, remembering the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty during the 1999 Kargil War.
Addressing the gathering, Ashok Kumar Sharma recalled the exceptional bravery, valour and determination of the Kargil heroes. He expressed gratitude to all participants for joining the tribute programme and keeping alive the memory of the martyrs.
Chief guest Jagdish Chand Verma said the courage and dedication of the Indian Army are unmatched across the world. He stated that the supreme sacrifice made by soldiers while protecting the country’s borders would never be forgotten.
He called upon the youth to draw inspiration from the lives of the Kargil heroes and dedicate themselves to nation-building and service to the country.
The event was attended by several prominent ex-servicemen and members of the community, including Ramesh Kumar Jamwal, Surender Kumar Verma, Amrit Lal Saklani, B.R. Dogra, Shamsher Singh, Raj Kumar Guleria, B.S. Azad, Rakesh Kumar Saklani, Surjeet Singh, Rumel Kumar, Karam Singh, Ramesh Guleria, Pankaj Thakur, Baldev Singh, Hem Raj, Nanak Chand, Dooni Chand and Moti Ram, among others.
The gathering paid tribute not only to the soldiers who laid down their lives in battle but also acknowledged the contribution and sacrifices of their families. The ceremony concluded with a renewed pledge to preserve the legacy of Kargil heroes and inspire future generations with their courage and patriotism.
