Road Link Gets Bhoomi Pujan, Sports Hostel Inaugurated in Rohru.

Shimla:

A Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was held by the Education Minister Rohit Thakur for the Gyan-Raika via Keharala link road under Saraswati Nagar sub-tehsil of Jubbal subdivision of Shimla district, marking the beginning of an important road connectivity project for the region.

Thakur said, the road, once completed, is expected to provide direct and convenient connectivity to several habitations in the Kathasu and Badhal panchayats. It will also benefit local farmers and orchardists by making transportation of their agricultural and horticultural produce to markets easier and more efficient.

The programme was followed by the formal inauguration of a sports hostel at PM Shri (Adarsh) Government Senior Secondary School, Rohru by the Minister, in the presence of Rohru MLA Mohan Lal Brakta.

The hostel, which had been operating from a private building since 1995, has now been shifted to a vacant HPPCL building. The building was reportedly sanctioned in 2025 following special efforts to provide better infrastructure and facilities for young athletes.

At present, the hostel offers training facilities in football and volleyball, with 20 seats each. Plans are also underway to introduce kabaddi training at the facility soon, aimed at providing young athletes with greater opportunities to develop their sporting abilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Thakur said the state government is committed to promoting sports and creating employment opportunities for talented youth through sports quotas. The focus, he said, is also on providing promising players with platforms to compete at national and international levels.

Rohru MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, also thanked the Minister and said state government is committed to ensure development equally across the state. This sports hostel will play a crucial role to provide better infrastructure to the young players.

The two programmes highlighted the ongoing focus on improving rural connectivity, strengthening infrastructure and promoting sports among youth in the Rohru and Jubbal areas.

The initiatives are expected to provide tangible benefits to local communities while creating better opportunities for farmers, horticulturists and aspiring sportspersons in the region.

The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to continued development and to creating better prospects for the younger generation.
