Cutting Officials Alone Won’t Fix Himachal’s Finances, Says Jogindernagar MLA Prakash Rana.
Shimla:
Jogindernagar MLA Prakash Rana has raised concerns over the financial condition of Himachal Pradesh, asserting that merely reducing the number of government officials will not be enough to address the state’s economic difficulties.
Rana said the government must take comprehensive measures to curb unnecessary expenditure and ensure that public money is utilised strictly in the larger public interest. He questioned spending on expensive official vehicles, large administrative staff and repeated extensions being granted to retired officials.
The MLA said the situation was particularly concerning at a time when a large number of young people in Himachal Pradesh are struggling to find employment opportunities. He argued that government expenditure should be prioritised towards public welfare, employment generation and essential services rather than avoidable expenses.
Rana warned that failure to control expenditure in time could increase the financial burden on future generations. He stressed that fiscal discipline should become a priority and that every rupee of taxpayers’ money must be spent responsibly.
“The people’s money should be used for public welfare, not for show and extravagance,” Rana said, calling for greater accountability and financial prudence in government functioning.
His remarks come amid continuing debate over Himachal Pradesh’s financial position, government expenditure and measures required to strengthen the state’s fiscal management.
