HP Congress Raises Concern Over Economic Pressures, Seeks Immediate Government Action.
Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee has expressed concern over emerging pressures on the Indian economy and urged the Union Government to take immediate measures to protect common citizens, farmers, workers, small traders, investors and the middle class.
Congress cited the recent fall in the Indian rupee, rising crude oil prices and tightening global financial conditions as challenges facing the economy. It said the rupee had recently fallen to around Rs. 96.31 against the US dollar, while Brent crude crossed $100 per barrel.
The party also referred to India’s fiscal deficit of about Rs. 7.1 lakh crore during April-August 2026, representing 41.9% of the full-year target. It said foreign portfolio outflows and higher global interest rates were putting additional pressure on financial markets.
Congress expressed concern over market volatility and losses faced by small and retail investors, saying these could affect household savings and investor confidence.
The party also recalled Rahul Gandhi’s May 2026 warning of a “severe economic storm” amid higher oil prices and the West Asia crisis.
Congress spokesperson Vikas Kapoor called for measures to strengthen domestic demand, employment, small businesses and household purchasing power while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
