Shimla:

Over 160 scientists across the India and abroad were huddled together at Vallabh government college Mandi of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday to discuss the issue of Biodiversity and Environment for sustainable Development. The scientists were concerned because of drastic changes in climate and constant increase in global warming.

It is a two days seminar in which these scientists will present their research papers and express their views on this burning issue.

On very first day, the seminar was presided over by the Additional Director of Higher Education, Professor Krishan Kumar Vaidy, who stressed upon to start a mass movement to make public aware about climate change and its implications in near future.

He said that “global warming has emerged as a major issue not only in India but across the globe. It is posing a serious threat for speedy melting of glaciers if timely action is not taken to address this issue. Scientists were warning us for the past many years about climate change implications but so far no concrete action was taken to address this issue.”

“In the last monsoon, Himachal had suffered badly because of rain fury, which led hundreds of families homeless and many people lost their lives. In December and January climate was completely dry, while at the end of January rainfall and snowfall occurred, which gave a little relief for us. It is indicating drastic changes in climate, which I had never witnessed before” he remarked.

“The outcome of this seminar will be placed before the central government for further action to address this issue. We believe that the government will accept it as its social responsibility. It is right time to wake up, otherwise it will be too late” he asserted.

He also appreciated the effort of College Principal Surina Sharma to organise a two days seminar on this burning issue to aware the masses.

Dr. Chaman, media coordinator of this event stated that researchers from India and abroad, who are taking part in this international conference representing their research papers through online and offline. Over 160 scientists were taking part in this conference.
