Government to Consider Karmakand Purohit Courses in State-Run Sanskrit Colleges: CM Sukhu.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said the Himachal Pradesh government would consider introducing Karmakand Purohit courses in Sanskrit colleges run by the state. Chairing a meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Board, the Chief Minister said diploma and certificate-level courses could also be introduced under the initiative.
Emphasising the importance of social harmony, Sukhu said an ideal society could be built only through mutual respect, brotherhood and cooperation. He said social harmony strengthens unity and creates an environment conducive to peace, goodwill and collective development.
23,018 Cattle Sheltered in 222 Gaushalas
The Chief Minister said 23,018 cattle are currently being provided shelter in 222 gaushalas and cow shelters across Himachal Pradesh. With seven more facilities nearing completion, another 2,200 to 2,500 destitute cattle are expected to receive shelter.
He said the Gau Seva Commission was providing Rs 1,200 per cattle per month for the upkeep and maintenance of destitute cattle housed in gaushalas and cow shelters. The state government has also constituted a state-level task force to address the issue of stray and destitute cattle.
Focus on Education, Health and Infrastructure
Sukhu said the state government was implementing several welfare and development programmes aimed at transforming key sectors, including education, health and roads.
He said free medicines, diagnostic tests and essential machinery and equipment were available to patients at government hospitals. Under the essential medicines list, 484 medicines and 134 consumable items had been notified for regional and civil hospitals and community health centres, while 170 medicines and 48 consumables were available for primary health centres and 91 medicines and 28 consumables for sub-health centres.
The Chief Minister said 573 types of medicines and consumable items were available under the state rate contract, while another 866 types were being made available through public sector undertakings.
Free Diagnostic Services Expanded
He said the government, through an e-tendering process and in collaboration with Krsnaa Diagnostics, was providing free diagnostic services to patients. These include 63 laboratory tests at primary health centres, 96 at community health centres, 110 at civil hospitals and 133 at zonal and regional hospitals.
Facilities for X-ray, ultrasound, CT scans and laboratory tests were also being provided at all Adarsh Health Institutions.
Funds for Triveni Dham Reconstruction
The Chief Minister said an estimate of Rs 1.28 crore had been prepared for reconstruction of the damaged and unsafe boundary wall around the Parikrama at Triveni Dham in Rewalsar, Mandi district.
The meeting also discussed the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana, CBSE curriculum schools and several other government schemes.
Sukhu urged all sections of society to actively participate in the state government’s extensive awareness campaign against the menace of the drug ‘chitta’.
Secretary, General Administration Ashish Singhmar briefed the Chief Minister on the functioning of the Board, while Special Secretary Harbans Singh Brascon conducted the proceedings.
Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, DGP Ashok Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretaries, Administrative Secretaries, Board members and other senior officers attended the meeting.
