The fourth edition of Global Bio-India 2024, held from September 12 to 14 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, successfully concluded, showcasing India’s advancements in biotechnology. Organized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), the event was inaugurated by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and other departments.

This year’s theme, “Biotech Innovation and Bio-manufacturing,” emphasized the sector’s potential and its impact on the bioeconomy. The event featured significant milestones, including the unveiling of 11 new products by Indian biotech startups, highlighting the country’s emerging talent in biosciences.

The valedictory session saw the exchange of Letters of Intent for co-funding partnerships between BIRAC, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and IPE Global. Awards were presented to exceptional contributors in various categories, including the BIRAC Innovators Awards, Best Startup Exhibitor Awards, Best Incubator Exhibitor Awards, and BioE3 Competition Awards.

The session also introduced Calls for Proposals under the i4 (Innovation for Industry) and PACE (Promoting Academic Collaboration and Entrepreneurship) programs, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering innovation.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani and former Director of IIT-Delhi, emphasized the need for organizational models similar to BIRAC for emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and quantum technology. He also highlighted the importance of supporting deep tech startups led by PhDs and academic faculty, and paid tribute to the late Dr. M.K. Bhan for his pivotal role in shaping India’s biotech sector.

Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary of DBT, along with other key figures from the biotech community, expressed gratitude to all participants and partners. The event underscored India’s growing prowess in the biotech sector and set a roadmap for future innovations in bio-manufacturing and biotech development.
