NHM Workers Play Key Role in ‘Healthy Woman, Empowered Family’ Campaign, Demand Job Security from Himachal Government.
Shimla:
In a significant push toward women’s health and family welfare, employees under the National Health Mission (NHM) are playing a crucial role in implementing the government-led “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family) campaign across Himachal Pradesh.
According to Navneet Guleria, Vice President of the State Health Committee (NHM) Contract Employees Union, NHM workers are tirelessly working day and night with honesty and dedication to ensure the success of the campaign. Under this initiative, NHM staff are conducting hemoglobin tests for women of all age groups, screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tuberculosis (TB) checks, and routine check-ups for pregnant women across the state.
Guleria highlighted the unwavering commitment of NHM employees, stating, “Whenever the government launches any health campaign, NHM employees work with utmost sincerity to meet the set objectives. However, it is extremely unfortunate that the government is not taking any concrete steps to secure the future of these employees.”
Expressing concern over the lack of long-term employment policies for NHM staff, Guleria urged the Himachal Pradesh government to immediately formulate a comprehensive policy to secure the careers and livelihoods of NHM contract workers and their families.

He warned that if the government continues to overlook their legitimate demands, NHM workers may be forced to resort to protests and agitation to make their voices heard.
The statement sheds light not only on the frontline contribution of NHM employees in improving public health but also on the pressing need to address their long-standing demand for job security and policy inclusion.
