Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a joint press conference with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, marking Holness’s inaugural bilateral visit to India. Expressing his delight, Modi emphasized the significance of the visit and highlighted Holness’s longstanding friendship with India.

The leaders discussed the deep-rooted relationship between India and Jamaica, founded on shared history, democratic values, and robust people-to-people connections. Modi outlined the partnership’s focus on the “Four Cs”—Culture, Cricket, Commonwealth, and CARICOM—and highlighted growing trade and investment between the two nations.

Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Jamaica’s development through initiatives like ITEC and ICCR scholarships, which aid in skill development and capacity building. He offered to share expertise in various sectors, including digital infrastructure, agriculture, health, and defense, addressing common challenges such as organized crime and terrorism.

The discussion also touched on global and regional issues, with both leaders advocating for dialogue to resolve disputes and calling for reforms in global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council.

Reflecting on the shared heritage between the two nations, Modi acknowledged the Indian diaspora in Jamaica, expressing gratitude to Holness for supporting this community. He noted the cultural exchanges, such as the growing popularity of Jamaican music in India and India’s influence through Yoga and Bollywood.

In a symbolic gesture, the road in front of the Jamaica High Commission in Delhi will be renamed “Jamaica Marg,” representing enduring friendship. Modi also highlighted the strong connection through sports, celebrating Jamaican cricketers’ impact in India and discussing enhanced cooperation in this area.

In closing, Modi extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Holness and his delegation, underscoring the commitment to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
