Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Review Progress in Tackling Left-Wing Extremism in New Delhi.
New Delhi;
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a crucial review meeting on October 7, 2024, with Chief Ministers from states affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). The meeting will include the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, alongside key Union Ministers and senior security officials.
This gathering aims to assess the government’s ongoing efforts to eradicate LWE, with a target set for March 2026. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant progress has already been made. In 2024 alone, security forces have successfully eliminated 202 armed LWE cadres, while 723 have surrendered and 812 have been arrested in the first nine months of the year.
The Modi government reports a 72% reduction in LWE violence and an 86% decrease in related deaths compared to 2010. The number of districts impacted by LWE has also decreased to just 38, signaling a decline in the insurgency’s influence.
To further support these efforts, the Central Government has focused on improving infrastructure in affected regions, constructing 14,400 km of roads and installing nearly 6,000 mobile towers to enhance connectivity.
This meeting follows a similar review held on October 6, 2023, during which Shah provided comprehensive directives aimed at eliminating LWE, reinforcing the government’s commitment to restoring peace and development in these areas.
