World Tribal Day Celebrated in Keylong with Special Programme Led by Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana.

A special programme was organised at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district on the occasion of World Tribal Day, with newly appointed State President of the Tribal Congress and Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana presiding over the event. The programme witnessed the participation of a large number of Congress workers, senior citizens, women, youth, party functionaries and prominent members of the local community.
Addressing the gathering, Anuradha Rana extended her warm greetings on World Tribal Day to all Congress workers, senior citizens, women and other dignitaries present on the occasion. She highlighted the rich cultural heritage, traditions, identity and legacy of tribal communities, describing them as an invaluable part of the region’s social and cultural fabric.
Rana said that preserving and promoting tribal culture, traditions and heritage is a collective responsibility. She stressed the need for unity and sustained efforts to protect the rights and interests of tribal communities while ensuring that their distinctive identity is respected and preserved for future generations.
She further emphasised the importance of working towards the social and economic empowerment of tribal communities. According to her, World Tribal Day is not merely an occasion to celebrate culture and identity but also an opportunity to reflect on the rights, responsibilities and aspirations of tribal society.
The programme saw active participation from senior party leaders, women, youth and a large number of Congress workers and local residents. Office-bearers and workers associated with various frontal organisations of the Congress party were also present in significant numbers.
Among those attending the programme were Tribal Congress Coordinator Victor Dhissa, District Congress President Dorje Larje, District Council Chairperson Veena, District Council members Chezang Dolma, Nirmala, Shashi Kiran and Sonam Chhering, along with Ram Singh, BDC member Anjali, Ashok Bata, Dinesh Kumar and Dorje Angroop.
Block Congress presidents Surender and Anil Thakur, former District Congress President Gyalchan Thakur, Women Congress District President Kamla Thakur and District Social Media Coordinator Rahul Thakur were also present. Several other party office-bearers and workers participated in the programme.
During the event, participants collectively pledged to work towards strengthening tribal unity, social and economic empowerment, preservation of traditional culture and customs, and the overall development of tribal communities. Speakers and participants underlined the importance of ensuring that development goes hand in hand with the protection of the region’s cultural heritage and traditional way of life.
The programme also highlighted the significance of involving younger generations in preserving indigenous traditions. Participants stressed that cultural knowledge, customs and community values must be passed on to future generations so that the unique identity of tribal societies remains protected amid changing social and economic conditions.
World Tribal Day is observed globally to recognise the contributions, rights and distinct cultural identities of indigenous peoples. In tribal regions such as Lahaul-Spiti, the occasion carries particular significance as communities continue to maintain their distinctive traditions, cultural practices and close relationship with their environment.
