Himachali Diaspora in Canada Celebrates Dussehra with Cultural Pride.
Ottawa, Canada:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended heartfelt congratulations to the Himachali community in Canada for their successful second annual Dussehra celebration at Parliament Hill, Ottawa. In a special video message, he praised the diaspora as “true Brand Ambassadors” of Himachal Pradesh, highlighting their dedication to preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage abroad.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of such events in maintaining a connection to one’s roots, regardless of location. He commended the Himachali Pravasi Global Association for uniting over 30 regional associations and dignitaries to celebrate this vibrant occasion, which showcased the traditions and divine heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
Sukhu also encouraged the diaspora to contribute to the state’s goal of becoming a “Green Energy State” by 2026, emphasizing that their investments in green energy projects could bolster sustainability efforts and strengthen the state’s economy.
The event featured cultural performances, including traditional Himachali Naati dances, a presentation of Ram Leela, and renditions of Pahari songs, all of which fostered a sense of pride among attendees. Guests also enjoyed a traditional Himachali ‘Dham,’ providing an authentic culinary experience.
Canadian MP Chandra Arya addressed the gathering, underscoring the significance of cultural heritage and the role of Dussehra in fostering community unity. The celebration not only highlighted the rich traditions of Himachal Pradesh but also reinforced the bonds among the Himachali diaspora in Canada.
