The Mandi Municipal Corporation marked its Foundation Day with a lively Pre-Diwali event at the Town Hall, led by Mayor Virender Bhatt on Monday. The Mayor took the opportunity to reflect on the corporation’s achievements and challenges over the past four years while extending Diwali greetings to the community.

During his address, the Mayor highlighted a commitment to urban infrastructure and services, despite facing staff shortages. He announced a substantial allocation of Rs. 3.5 crore for the maintenance of natural water sources, emphasizing the importance of ensuring access to clean water for residents.

To enhance public safety and convenience, the corporation has installed over 5,000 streetlights, investing around Rs. 4 crore in new areas. Additionally, Rs. 50 lakh has been allocated for upgrading the old electrical infrastructure across various wards.

The Mayor detailed various ongoing development projects, including the construction of three new parks at a cost of approximately Rs. 1.5 crore, and Rs. 30 lakh earmarked for parking facilities in Ward 1. A new Health and Wellness Center is also underway in Bheuli, with a budget of around Rs. 70 lakh.

In total, Rs. 20 crore has been dedicated to improving roads, soil conservation, and maintaining historical sites, with an additional Rs. 7 crore set aside for future projects. The corporation is also focusing on elderly support, spending Rs. 45 lakh on benches throughout the city, with plans for another Rs. 37 lakh for further installations.

To promote education, five new libraries have opened at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh, accommodating 150 children and offering free internet access. The corporation is also celebrating local cultural heritage by organizing festivals, with an annual budget of Rs. 5 lakh.

The Mayor praised the establishment of over 100 self-help groups under the National Urban Livelihood Mission, facilitating loans of Rs. 1.5 crore to boost self-employment. In terms of sanitation, the corporation employs over 200 workers and spends approximately Rs. 40 lakh monthly on waste management, introducing new high-tech vehicles for efficient collection.

The event was attended by corporation council members, Commissioner H.S. Rana, engineers, and municipal staff, reinforcing their collective commitment to the city’s progress and future development.
