Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a cash reward of Rs. 1 crore for international cricketer Renuka Thakur, who was part of the World Champion Indian Women’s Cricket Team that recently clinched its maiden Women’s World Cup title.

Renuka Thakur, a native of Rohru area in Shimla district, played a vital role in India’s historic victory. The Chief Minister personally spoke to Renuka Thakur over the phone, congratulating her and the entire Indian team for their remarkable achievement.

“I watched both the semi-final and final matches. The Indian team displayed outstanding performance throughout the tournament, and their victory has made the entire nation proud,” said CM Sukhu.

Expressing immense pride in Renuka’s achievement, the Chief Minister stated that her success has brought global recognition to Himachal Pradesh. He added that her journey and dedication would serve as a great source of inspiration for young girls across the State to pursue their dreams in sports and other fields with determination.

The Indian Women’s Cricket Team created history last evening by defeating South Africa in the final match of the Women’s World Cup 2025 held in Mumbai, lifting the trophy for the first time.

CM Sukhu concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to promoting sports and supporting talented athletes from Himachal Pradesh, ensuring they receive every possible opportunity to excel on national and international platforms.
