Lothal, Gujarat:

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, alongside Minister of Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, conducted a joint review of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal. The review was part of assessing the progress of the project under the Sagarmala Programme.

The NMHC, being developed at the historic site of Lothal, aims to showcase India’s maritime legacy spanning from ancient to modern times. The complex will offer a unique “edutainment” experience using cutting-edge technology to spread awareness and attract international visitors. Lothal, a key city of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, is known for its advanced dockyard and trade history, making it a significant cultural landmark.

During the review, the ministers visited important sites such as INS Nishank, the Lothal Jetty Walkway, and the Museum Block. They also met with onsite workers to address challenges and monitor the project’s progress. Sarbananda Sonowal praised the substantial development in civil infrastructure, expressing confidence in meeting the project’s timeline.

Highlighting the socio-economic benefits, Sonowal emphasized that the NMHC would create jobs, foster skill development, and empower local communities, particularly the youth. The project is seen as a vital part of India’s ambition to become a global maritime leader.

The NMHC, with 65% of Phase 1A already completed, is expected to attract global tourists and bolster Gujarat’s tourism economy. The complex will serve as a dynamic platform for maritime education and a symbol of India’s growing influence on the world maritime stage.

The government remains committed to delivering the project to the highest standards, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India by 2047. With its state-of-the-art exhibits and interactive displays, the NMHC is set to become a landmark for both preserving India’s maritime heritage and promoting global collaboration in the maritime sector.
