New Delhi:
In a significant move to raise awareness about the health benefits of medicinal plants, the Ministry of Ayush on Thursday launched a nationwide campaign titled “Shatavari – For Better Health.” The initiative, aimed at promoting the traditional plant’s health benefits, was inaugurated by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, in the presence of key officials including Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), and other senior representatives.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Jadhav praised the Ministry’s ongoing efforts over the past decade in advancing the cause of medicinal plants and improving public health. He particularly lauded the NMPB’s previous campaigns for plants like Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha, which have successfully raised public awareness about the diverse benefits of these plants. Jadhav emphasized that the Shatavari – For Better Health campaign aims to further these efforts and bring the benefits of Shatavari to the forefront, particularly in the context of women’s health.
“The role of Shatavari in improving women’s health is crucial, and it directly supports India’s larger vision of achieving the Panch Pran goal, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech in 2022,” said Jadhav. He noted that Shatavari, recognized for its health-enhancing properties, is an important step in achieving the broader mission of making India a developed nation by 2047, especially in terms of improving the health and well-being of women.
Shatavari, a medicinal plant renowned for its numerous health benefits, is particularly beneficial for women’s health, boosting immunity, and offering support during various stages of life, such as pregnancy and menopause. The plant’s medicinal properties have been celebrated for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic practices.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, elaborated on the Ministry’s efforts to promote sustainable practices and the conservation of medicinal plants, including Shatavari, through the Central Sector Scheme for the Conservation, Development, and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants. He outlined how the scheme aims to preserve these vital resources for future generations while fostering their cultivation.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar Dadhich, CEO of NMPB, discussed the significant medicinal importance of Shatavari, highlighting its ability to promote women’s health, enhance immunity, and support overall well-being. He also emphasized the plant’s agro-economic potential, detailing that financial assistance of Rs. 18.9 lakh would be available to eligible organizations for implementing the campaign and raising awareness nationwide.
The Shatavari – For Better Health campaign is part of the Ministry of Ayush’s larger mission to promote the health benefits of medicinal plants and traditional medicines. The campaign is expected to reach a wide audience across India, ensuring that more people become aware of the health benefits of Shatavari and its role in enhancing public health, especially for women.
As part of the ongoing efforts to improve the nation’s health and well-being, this initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of fostering holistic health through the promotion of traditional and natural remedies.
