PM Modi Launches Development Programs for Women Empowerment in Navsari, Gujarat on International Women’s Day. 

Launches G-SAFAL and G-MAITRI Schemes, Highlights Women-Led Development.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of developmental initiatives in Navsari, Gujarat, focusing on women’s empowerment and rural development. Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister praised the blessings of women, highlighting that they are his greatest strength and shield. He launched two significant schemes: G-SAFAL (Gujarat Scheme for Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods) and G-MAITRI (Gujarat Mentorship and Acceleration of Individuals for Transforming Rural Income), which aim to provide financial assistance, entrepreneurial training, and mentorship to women in rural areas.

Empowering Women Through Developmental Schemes

The G-SAFAL initiative will offer financial support and training to women from Antyodaya families in two Aspirational districts and thirteen Aspirational Blocks of Gujarat. Meanwhile, G-MAITRI is designed to assist rural startups that are creating an environment conducive to livelihood development. These efforts are part of the government’s broader agenda to ensure financial independence and self-sustainability for rural women, who play a pivotal role in the nation’s economy.

A Day of Recognition for Women’s Strength

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of women in the country’s progress, stating, “India is now walking the path of women-led development.” He spoke about the government’s efforts to ensure women’s dignity and safety, citing the construction of toilets for women, bank accounts for crores of women, and initiatives like the Ujjwala scheme, which ensures clean cooking fuel for rural women. He also referenced the extension of maternity leave for working women from 12 to 26 weeks and the enactment of the law against triple talaq, which directly benefits Muslim women.

Addressing the women in the audience, PM Modi expressed deep gratitude for their love and blessings, stating that he feels the richest person in the world because of their support. He highlighted women’s growing participation in various sectors such as politics, judiciary, and business. Notably, he mentioned that 78 women MPs were elected in 2019, and women now occupy more than 35% of district court positions across the country.

Recognizing Women’s Role in Gujarat’s Economic Growth

Prime Minister Modi took the opportunity to acknowledge Gujarat’s women-led initiatives, including the success of Amul and Lijjat Papad, which have revolutionized the dairy and food industries, providing economic empowerment to women. He further commended the state for its efforts to integrate women into the economy, highlighting the success of the cooperative model developed through the hard work and determination of Gujarati women.

He also highlighted the significant role of women in Gujarat’s rural development, particularly in the ongoing rainwater harvesting and water conservation efforts. Navsari’s women have been instrumental in completing over 5,000 water conservation projects, with a goal of constructing 1,000 percolation pits in a single day. Shri Modi praised their commitment, noting that the region is now a leader in water conservation.

A Focus on Rural Women’s Financial Independence

During his address, PM Modi emphasized the government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the income of rural women, particularly through self-help groups. He mentioned that over 10 crore women are involved in more than 90 lakh self-help groups across India, with more than 3 lakh groups operating in Gujarat alone. The Prime Minister assured that the government would continue to provide financial assistance to women, with a target to make 3 crore women “Lakhpati Didis” (women with a substantial income) in the next five years.

He also referenced the government’s efforts to promote women’s entrepreneurship and leadership, mentioning programs such as Bank Sakhi, Bima Sakhi, and Krishi Sakhi, which have opened up new avenues for women in rural areas to enhance their income through modern technologies and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Ensuring Women’s Safety and Justice

PM Modi highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s safety, noting that over the past decade, women’s security has been a top priority. He mentioned the establishment of fast-track courts for the swift resolution of cases involving women and children, with around 800 such courts now operational. He also spoke about the strengthening of laws to combat violence against women, including the introduction of the death penalty for heinous crimes and the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which speeds up justice and empowers victims with easier access to legal support.

Inspiring Confidence in Rural Women

Prime Minister Modi shared his pride in seeing rural women overcome fears and doubts, citing examples such as the successful implementation of the “Drone Didi” scheme, which integrates modern technology with rural agriculture. This program is helping women gain financial independence and contributing to the economic growth of their communities.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech with a message of hope and determination, reaffirming that the government would continue its efforts to empower women and ensure that they play a key role in shaping the future of a developed India. He expressed confidence that the goal of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047 will be achieved with the unwavering strength and dedication of the country’s women.

A Day of Dedication and Recognition

To further celebrate women’s empowerment, Prime Minister Modi also participated in the Lakhpati Didi program in Vansi Borsi village, Navsari, where he interacted with women who have achieved significant financial independence through the government’s initiatives. He felicitated five women with Lakhpati Didi Certificates, acknowledging their efforts and successes in building sustainable livelihoods.

Key Figures and Dignitaries Present at the Event

The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, and other prominent dignitaries. Their collective support underscores the state and national government’s commitment to uplifting women and ensuring their integral role in the development of the country.

This significant initiative marks a key step in the ongoing journey towards women-led development in India, as the government continues to prioritize gender equality and empowerment at every level of society.
