Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met with His Excellency Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, at the State House, marking a significant step in strengthening the enduring and close ties between India and Mauritius.

During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at furthering the special relationship shared between the two nations. Both leaders reflected on the strong historical, cultural, and people-to-people linkages that bind India and Mauritius. Prime Minister Modi also expressed his pride in being invited as the Chief Guest for the National Day celebrations of Mauritius for the second time, underscoring the deep bond between the countries.

In a gesture symbolizing the growing ties, Prime Minister Modi handed over Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to President Gokhool and First Lady Vrinda Gokhool. This move highlights India’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the Indian diaspora in Mauritius.

The Prime Minister also visited the Ayurveda Garden at the State House, a project established in collaboration with the Government of India. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of Mauritius as a key partner for India in promoting the benefits of traditional medicine, particularly Ayurveda, to the global community.

Following the talks, President Gokhool hosted a State lunch in honor of Prime Minister Modi, further cementing the strong diplomatic relations between the two nations. The meeting and subsequent events signify the continued collaboration between India and Mauritius in areas such as healthcare, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
