Organic Farming Camp Held in Narola Village to Promote Sustainable Agriculture.

Shimla:

A one-day camp focusing on the development of organic farming was successfully held in Gram Panchayat Narola, in the Upper Narola ward, Sub Division Baldwara in Mandi district yesterday. The camp, organized yesterday, was a joint effort by the ward Panch Satya Devi and the Lakhdata Mandir Committee Narola. Over 150 local residents from the area participated in this insightful event, which was held in the courtyard of the Mandir.

The camp was presided over by Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) Balwant Thakur of Baldwara, with support from other members of the Agriculture Department including Vikas Chauhan, Manoj Kumar, and Vipin Dass. These experts played a key role in explaining the methods and benefits of organic farming, with a specific focus on the government-launched “Prakritik Kheti Khushal Yojna,” which encourages environmentally friendly farming practices.

During the camp, the participants were educated on how organic farming not only benefits the financial well-being of farmers but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Organic farming practices help reduce soil degradation, prevent water contamination, and reduce reliance on harmful chemicals and pesticides, leading to healthier crops and better overall health for local communities.

In addition to the educational sessions, the Agriculture Department provided free organic seeds of French beans and ladyfinger to the attending men and women. This was seen as a significant effort in helping the local farming community shift towards more sustainable practices. To further ensure the success of the event, a lunch was also arranged for all participants.

Roshan Lal, Vice President of the Lakhdata Mandir Committee Narola, expressed his gratitude for the large turnout and highlighted the positive impact of the camp on the local residents.

Capt. Jagdish Verma (Retd), a prominent local resident, also praised the Agriculture Department for its initiative in promoting organic farming in Himachal Pradesh, particularly focusing on rural areas. He commended the efforts of the department in encouraging eco-friendly farming practices that would benefit both the farmers and the local environment.

The camp was well-received by the local community, and it has sparked a renewed interest in organic farming as a means to achieve long-term agricultural sustainability in the region.
