Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Seeks Compensation for Monsoon Losses.

New Delhi:

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today to discuss pressing issues related to the state, including the compensation for the damages caused by the heavy monsoon rains in 2023. During the meeting, Chief Minister Sukhu urged the Union government to release the financial assistance the state had requested under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) for the losses incurred during the monsoon season.

The Chief Minister explained that Himachal Pradesh had faced severe damage to critical infrastructure, including drinking water and irrigation schemes, roads, and bridges. These natural calamities had disrupted daily life and caused significant setbacks to the state’s development. Despite the scale of the damage, the state has been managing the relief and rehabilitation efforts using its own resources, Sukhu emphasized.

“Although we have already submitted a claim for financial assistance, the relief is still awaited from the Central Government,” Sukhu stated. “The state has been grappling with the aftermath of the heavy rains, and it is essential for the Centre to release the compensation so that the rebuilding process can be expedited.”

In addition to the monsoon-related damages, the Chief Minister also raised several other issues related to the development and welfare of Himachal Pradesh, which were discussed during the meeting.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Chief Minister Sukhu of all possible assistance from the Centre and promised that the government would take swift action to address the state’s concerns.

Additional Chief Secretary and Secretary Revenue, Onkar Chand Sharma, who accompanied the Chief Minister, was also present at the meeting.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for further cooperation between the state and the Centre to tackle the challenges faced by Himachal Pradesh due to the natural calamities and improve the state’s infrastructure and development.
