BJP to Stage Massive Protest in Shimla on March 27, Alleging Deteriorating Law and Order Under Congress Government.
Shimla:
BJP Chief Spokesperson and MLA from Sundernagar, Rakesh Jamwal, strongly criticized the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of a significant deterioration in law and order. Speaking to the media today, Jamwal pointed to several recent incidents of violence and alleged police apathy as evidence of the government’s failure to maintain public safety. To raise these concerns, Jamwal announced that the BJP would hold a massive protest in Shimla on March 27.
“The law and order situation has worsened significantly since the Congress came into power in Himachal Pradesh. We are witnessing incidents that were previously unheard of,” Jamwal stated. He specifically highlighted the recent attack on a Dhaba owner near Pulgharat in Mandi district. The victim, who was shot and seriously injured by miscreants, reportedly called the police for help but was advised to go to the hospital for treatment instead. Jamwal described the police’s response as “unacceptable.”
In addition to the attack on the Dhaba owner, Jamwal pointed to a series of disturbing incidents, including the shooting of a former Congress MLA in Bilaspur, a shooting case in the court, and the mysterious death of HPPCL chief engineer, which he claimed was linked to mental harassment by his superiors. The family of the deceased engineer has accused an IAS officer and the Director of HPPCL of being responsible for his death, demanding a CBI probe. Jamwal also echoed these demands, asserting that the BJP stands in solidarity with the family.
“The state government has constituted a committee to investigate the case, but the family has doubts about a fair probe, especially with an IAS officer being part of the investigation,” Jamwal said. “The family is demanding a CBI investigation, and BJP supports this demand.”
Jamwal also accused Congress ministers of attempting to discredit top investigative agencies, stating that they feared a probe might expose major loopholes and harm the government’s reputation. He emphasized that the state government is reluctant to allow a CBI investigation into this case.
Further condemning the state government’s inability to maintain law and order, Jamwal referenced attacks on government officials, including the assault on the SDM of Mandi by the mining mafia. He also claimed that in the past 50 days alone, 16 murders have been reported in the state. “Under the two-year Congress regime in Himachal, 138 murders, 498 rapes, and over 1,600 thefts have been reported,” Jamwal said.
He accused the Congress government of fostering a “mafia raj” in the state, citing the prevalence of drug and mining mafias, with illegal mining rampant in districts such as Mandi. According to Jamwal, development work in the state has stalled due to this widespread corruption and criminal activity. He also criticized Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for allegedly making false promises during the election campaign. “The CM speaks lies both outside and inside the Vidhan Sabha,” he said.
Jamwal concluded his statement by asserting that the BJP’s protest on March 27 would serve as a warning to the state government. “We want to alert the government to these grave issues that are affecting the common people of Himachal Pradesh,” he said.
The BJP’s planned protest is expected to draw significant attention to these allegations and increase pressure on the Congress government to address concerns over the state’s law and order situation.
