Reports from Gaza Strip Highlight Horrific Attacks, Over 130 Children Dead in Single-Day Strikes: UNICEF.
Gaza:
A spokesperson of UNICEF stated that disturbing reports and images emerging from the Gaza Strip following today’s violent attacks paint a grim picture of devastation. Hundreds of lives have been lost, including more than 130 children, marking one of the deadliest single-day tolls for children in the past year.
“The airstrikes reportedly hit makeshift shelters where families, including young children, were sleeping, adding to the tragedy and underscoring the grim reality that nowhere in Gaza is safe. These recent attacks compound the ongoing crisis, where the lives of innocent civilians, especially children, have been shattered by violence” he added.
“The devastating escalation comes amid an ongoing blockade that has prevented essential humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza. It has now been sixteen days since the last humanitarian aid truck was allowed to enter, leaving many in dire need of food, medicine, and shelter. The situation is made worse by the interruption of electricity to Gaza’s main desalination plant, significantly limiting access to clean drinking water, which further endangers the lives of the already vulnerable population” he remarked.
“Currently, Gaza’s one million children, who have already endured more than 15 months of brutal conflict, find themselves once again thrust into a world dominated by fear and violence. The recent attacks only deepen the suffering and desperation felt across the region” he said.
“In light of the escalating humanitarian disaster, international organizations and rights groups are calling for immediate action. “The attacks and violence must stop now,” they emphasize, urging all parties involved in the conflict to reinstate a ceasefire without delay. The international community is also being urged to use diplomatic leverage to prevent further deterioration of the situation” he asserted.
The calls for action highlight the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law, which includes the immediate provision of humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, and the safe release of hostages. The international community’s involvement is crucial to ensuring that the lives of innocent children and civilians are protected, and that the people of Gaza receive the support and protection they urgently need.
