Deputy Commissioner Inaugurates Two-Day Snow Festival Near Tandi Sangam Ghat, Emphasizing Women’s Empowerment.
Key Officials and Local Community Participate in the Celebratory Event.

The second phase of the Snow Festival in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti was officially launched near Tandi Sangam Ghat. The two-day event began with a grand opening ceremony attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul-Spiti, Rahul Kumar, as the chief guest. Also present at the event was the Superintendent of Police, Ilma Afroz, who played an important role in supporting the festival’s initiatives.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar emphasized that the primary goal of the Snow Festival was to promote women’s empowerment and enhance tourism in the region. He stated that the festival aims to highlight the district’s beautiful tourist spots, strengthen the tourism sector, and create more opportunities for self-employment. Furthermore, he assured that the preservation and promotion of the rich local culture and traditions of the area would continue to be a top priority for the district administration.
Kumar also mentioned that one of the key purposes of hosting the festival at multiple locations was to allow tourists to experience the scenic beauty of the district and learn about its culture. In addition, he highlighted the efforts made by the government to provide a platform for local products by promoting them on the HimEra site and ensuring that various local goods are registered for Geographical Indication (GI) tagging.
The Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that information about the district’s tourism destinations has been made available on the “Discover Lahaul-Spiti” website to attract more tourists and provide them with necessary conveniences. He encouraged the youth to engage in sports and avoid the harmful effects of substance abuse, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Superintendent of Police Ilma Afroz also shared her thoughts during the event, commending the active participation of women in the Snow Festival and other local activities. She praised their significant contributions to the success of the festival.

The event featured various cultural performances by local women’s groups and school children, who presented colorful and traditional dances. Sports competitions were also held as part of the festivities. Numerous exhibition stalls were set up by various departments, along with stalls offering local delicacies prepared by women’s and youth groups. Visitors to the festival enjoyed the local flavors and took part in various activities.
Additionally, the Swachhta (Cleanliness) initiative was highlighted through a street play organized by the organization ‘Sahas,’ which aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
On March 23, additional programs will be held near Tandi Sangam Ghat, and awards will be distributed to the participants. Furthermore, a grand event will be organized at Trilokinath Temple on Monday, March 24.
In attendance at the event were SDM Keylong Rajneesh Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Sankalp Gautam, and other departmental officials, along with hundreds of local residents and tourists who gathered to enjoy the celebration.
