Rohtak’s Somveer Wins Suket Kesari Title, Chandigarh’s Ashish Becomes Runner-Up at State-Level Nalwad Mela in Sundernagar.

The seven-day long State-Level Nalwad Mela 2025, held in Sundernagar of Mandi district, concluded on Friday with a traditional procession marking the end of the event. The closing ceremony, which took place on March 28, was attended by the Minister of Urban and Rural Planning, Housing Management, Technical Education, and Vocational Industrial Training, Rajesh Dharmani, who participated as the chief guest and took part in the grand procession from PWD Rest House to Nagon Stadium.
During the closing program, Minister Dharmani also attended the Kushti Dangal (wrestling competition) and presented awards to the winners. He unveiled a commemorative brochure published on the occasion of the Nalwad Mela.
The procession, led by Minister Rajesh Dharmani, included prominent dignitaries such as former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur and other.
Thousands of people attended the wrestling competition, which added to the vibrant atmosphere of the event. The Minister also appreciated the participants and enjoyed the competition.
Rohtak’s Somveer Clinches Suket Kesari Title
In the two-day wrestling competition held during the Nalwad Mela, Somveer from Rohtak emerged as the winner of the prestigious Suket Kesari title, while Ashish from Chandigarh became the runner-up. Somveer received a cash prize of Rs. 51,000, a traditional ‘Gurj,’ and various other prizes, while Ashish was awarded Rs. 41,000 along with a ‘Gurj.’
The title of Suket Himachal Kumar was claimed by Dheeraj from Bhatwada, with Bharat Bhushan, also from Bhatwada, securing the runner-up position. Dheeraj was honored with a cash prize of Rs. 31,000 and a ‘Gurj,’ while Bharat Bhushan received Rs. 25,000 and a ‘Gurj.’
In the Suket Kumar Under-17 category, Shakhveer Yadav from Sundernagar emerged victorious, with Siddharth from Dhaul finishing as the runner-up. Both were awarded a cash prize of Rs.15,000 and Rs 11,000, respectively, along with traditional ‘Gurjs’ and other gifts.
The event saw massive crowds and successfully showcased the rich cultural and sporting heritage of the region, with the participants being highly praised for their strength and skill on the mat.
