PM Modi Inaugurates Development Projects Worth Rs. 5,200 Crore in Siwan, Bihar: A New Era of Growth and Pride Begins.
Siwan, Bihar:
In a landmark visit to Siwan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects exceeding Rs. 5,200 crore, signaling a transformative push toward infrastructure, industry, and social welfare in Bihar. Addressing a massive gathering, PM Modi emphasized Bihar’s critical role in India’s journey toward becoming a global economic powerhouse, asserting, “Bihar will prosper and will also play a big role in the prosperity of the country.”
From railway infrastructure and sewage treatment to housing, clean water, and exports, the event marked the rollout of initiatives spanning energy, transportation, urban development, and manufacturing. The Prime Minister was joined by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and several Union Ministers, reflecting a united front for Bihar’s development.
A Tribute to Bihar’s Legacy and Promise
The Prime Minister began by paying tributes to historical figures such as Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, and religious icons like Baba Mahendra Nath and Maa Thawe Bhawani. He called Siwan a land that empowered Indian democracy and upheld the Constitution. PM Modi also remembered social reformer Braj Kishore Prasad and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to carry forward the mission of these great souls.
Empowering Bihar’s Poor and Marginalized
Shri Modi highlighted that the projects launched will directly benefit underprivileged communities, especially the poor, Dalits, Mahadalits, and backward classes. Citing that over 25 crore Indians have risen above poverty in the past decade, he pointed to Bihar’s remarkable contribution to this achievement, with nearly 4 crore people overcoming poverty in the state alone.
He emphasized ongoing welfare initiatives including over 1.5 crore electricity and water connections, construction of 57 lakh pucca houses, and the establishment of 45,000+ Common Service Centres in Bihar. He also celebrated that more than 1.10 lakh houses have been built in Siwan district alone, with a majority registered in the names of women—an empowering step for gender equity.
Transforming Infrastructure and Industry
In a strong boost to local infrastructure, PM Modi inaugurated the Vaishali–Deoria railway line and flagged off a new train service. He also launched the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, enhancing connectivity in North Bihar and offering a faster travel option for pilgrims and tourists.
A major highlight was the flagging off of the first export locomotive manufactured at the Marhowra Locomotive Factory in Bihar. Bound for the Republic of Guinea, the engine exemplifies the “Make in India – Make for the World” ethos. Modi declared that Bihar is now on the global export map, with Made in Bihar engines powering trains in Africa—a point of pride for the state once labeled “backward.”
Clean Water and Green Energy Push
Taking forward the Namami Gange initiative, PM Modi inaugurated six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) worth over Rs. 1,800 crore and laid the foundation stone for additional water supply and sanitation projects worth Rs. 3,000 crore across Bihar. These projects aim to ensure clean, safe drinking water and improve the quality of life in both urban and rural areas.
In the energy sector, the PM announced a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Bihar. These installations across 15 substations will reduce electricity costs and ensure uninterrupted supply for consumers, especially in regions like Siwan, Motihari, and Bettiah.
Caution Against Regression
While celebrating progress, the Prime Minister cautioned against a return to the era of misrule, lawlessness, and corruption. He urged people to stay vigilant against those who once stalled Bihar’s growth and are now attempting to regain power through divisive tactics. “They used poverty as a political tool. But our government has proven that poverty can be eliminated,” said PM Modi.
He criticized previous regimes for promoting dynastic politics and ignoring the true spirit of the Constitution. Citing the disrespect shown to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by political opponents, he affirmed his government’s commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, contrasting it with the “family-first” politics of the past.
A Vision for Bihar’s Global Future
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Bihar will become a key hub of ‘Made in India’ manufacturing, exporting local produce and industrial goods globally. He stated that upcoming investments in roads, railways, waterways, and Vande Bharat trains will turn Bihar into an industrial and tourism powerhouse.
“The youth of Bihar are writing a new chapter of development,” said PM Modi, as he called on them to lead Bihar into a new era of growth and prosperity. “Together, we will restore Bihar’s ancient glory and make it a powerful engine of a developed India.”
