Shimla:
On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a revered nationalist leader, BJP MLA from Banjar, Surender Shourie, participated in a solemn tribute ceremony organized by Bajoura Mandal in the Banjar Assembly constituency of Kullu district.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Surender Shourie described Dr. Mookerjee as a true patriot, visionary leader, and intellectual statesman, whose unwavering commitment to the nation continues to inspire generations. He said, “Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee believed in the mantra of ‘Nation First.’ His life teaches us to act fearlessly in the interest of the country. India can never forget his ideology, dedication, and sacrifice.”
Shourie urged the attendees to follow Dr. Mookerjee’s principles and rededicate themselves to the goal of building a strong and united nation. He emphasized that today’s youth must learn from such towering personalities who laid down their lives for the integrity and unity of the country.
A Legacy of National Unity
Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee is best remembered for his staunch opposition to Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. He famously protested the requirement of a permit to enter Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan, aur do Nishan nahi chalenge” (There cannot be two constitutions, two prime ministers, and two flags in one nation). He was arrested during his protest in 1953 and died under mysterious circumstances in custody, marking one of the earliest and most powerful sacrifices in post-independence India.
A Moment of Reflection
The tribute event in Bajoura saw local BJP workers, community members, and party leaders come together to remember Dr. Mookerjee’s contributions. Floral tributes were offered, and speakers reflected on his lifelong efforts to ensure the territorial and constitutional integrity of India.
Surender Shourie concluded by stating that the ideals of Dr. Mookerjee should continue to guide the path of governance and public service, reminding everyone that national interest must always remain paramount.
The program was a reminder of the enduring legacy of one of India’s most courageous leaders and his vision for a united, strong, and sovereign nation.
