Chamba:

In a robust and well-coordinated response to the ongoing monsoon-induced crisis, the Himachal Pradesh Government has launched a large-scale rescue operation to evacuate hundreds of devotees stranded during the Manimahesh Yatra. The operation is being carried out under the direct supervision and guidance of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Mass Evacuation Underway Amid Challenging Conditions

The Chamba district administration began the evacuation process by transporting nearly 500 pilgrims from Bharmour to Chamba using vehicles on 3rd September 2025. Given that several road sections along the route have been damaged due to incessant rains and landslides, the administration has deployed adequate security personnel to assist pilgrims and ensure their safety throughout the journey.

To minimize hardships, free food, drinking water, transport, and other essential facilities have been arranged en-route, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey despite the adverse conditions.

Airlift Operation for Ailing and Elderly Pilgrims

In a special relief effort, 35 ailing and elderly devotees were safely airlifted to Chamba via a small helicopter, which successfully completed seven sorties during the day. This critical air evacuation helped remove those most vulnerable to the risks posed by harsh weather and difficult terrain.

Additionally, an Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopter has been stationed at Pathankot on standby, ready to assist in case of emergencies, further bolstering the rescue capabilities.

Hands-on Supervision by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has been personally overseeing the rescue efforts on the ground for several days. Displaying unwavering commitment, he traveled on foot from Chamba to Bharmour to coordinate relief activities and monitor the safety of pilgrims closely.

The Minister’s hands-on involvement underscores the Government’s dedication to safeguarding the lives and well-being of both local residents and the thousands of pilgrims visiting the region during this critical period.

Government’s Commitment to Safety and Welfare

A government spokesperson reiterated that the Himachal Pradesh Government remains steadfast in its commitment to protect the lives, property, and dignity of its people and the visiting pilgrims and tourists, especially during these challenging monsoon conditions.

Chief Minister Sukhu has directed all relevant agencies to continue working on a war footing to expedite rescue, relief, and restoration operations across the affected areas, ensuring no one is left behind.

The massive rescue operation and prompt airlift of vulnerable pilgrims stand as a testament to the state’s resilience and preparedness in managing natural disasters while ensuring the safety of its citizens and visitors.
