UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Condemns Russian Drone Attack, Vows Strong Support for Ukraine and Poland.

London:

In a sharply worded statement issued this morning, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned what he described as a “barbaric attack” by Russia on Ukraine, as well as a serious violation of Polish and NATO airspace by Russian drones. Calling the incident “egregious and unprecedented,” Starmer warned that it underscores President Vladimir Putin’s continued disregard for international norms and human life.

“This was an extremely reckless move by Russia and only serves to remind us of President Putin’s blatant disregard for peace, and the constant bombardment innocent Ukrainians face every day,” the Prime Minister stated.

According to early reports, Russian drones crossed into Polish airspace during a large-scale overnight attack on Ukrainian infrastructure near the western border. Polish and NATO air defenses were swiftly activated, with no confirmed casualties inside NATO territory.

Prime Minister Starmer confirmed he had spoken directly with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk this morning to reiterate the UK’s unwavering support for Poland, a fellow NATO ally, and for Ukraine in its ongoing defense against Russian aggression.

“My sincere thanks go to the NATO and Polish forces who rapidly responded to protect the Alliance,” Starmer added.

The UK leader also reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to the broader international effort to contain Russian aggression. “With our partners – and through our leadership of the Coalition of the Willing – we will continue to ramp up the pressure on Putin until there is a just and lasting peace,” he said.

NATO on High Alert

NATO officials have confirmed they are monitoring the situation closely. While the alliance has not invoked Article 5 – the mutual defense clause – the breach of Polish airspace is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Preliminary discussions are reportedly underway in Brussels regarding potential diplomatic and military responses.

A Dangerous Escalation

This latest development represents a significant escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as it marks one of the most direct threats to NATO territory since the war began in February 2022. Defense analysts say the move risks expanding the scope of the conflict unless de-escalation measures are swiftly pursued.

UK’s Continued Role

Under Starmer’s leadership, the United Kingdom has maintained a strong and vocal position within NATO and the international coalition supporting Ukraine. The UK has provided significant military aid, training, and humanitarian support since the onset of the war.

As tensions rise, Starmer’s statement signals that the UK remains firmly aligned with its allies in confronting Russian aggression—and willing to take a leading role in ensuring regional and global security.
