In a historic push for development in Bihar’s Seemanchal region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth approximately Rs. 40,000 crore during a grand public event in Purnea today. The mega initiative includes critical projects in railways, civil aviation, electricity, irrigation, and housing—aimed at transforming the long-neglected region.

Speaking to a massive gathering, Modi emphasized that Purnea has now officially been placed on India’s aviation map with the inauguration of the new terminal building at Purnea Airport, completed in a record time of less than five months. He flagged off the first commercial flight from the airport, promising enhanced air connectivity for the people of Seemanchal.


PM Inaugurates Infrastructure Projects Across Bihar

Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for a range of key infrastructure projects:

  • Purnea Airport Terminal inaugurated.
  • One Vande Bharat, two Amrit Bharat, and one passenger train flagged off.
  • New Araria–Galgalia rail line inaugurated; foundation laid for Vikramshila–Kataria rail line.
  • Doubling of Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat line approved.
  • Mokama–Munger section of Buxar–Bhagalpur high-speed corridor approved.
  • 2400 MW thermal power plant inaugurated in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.
  • First phase of the Kosi-Mechi intra-state river link project launched to address irrigation and flood issues.

Historic Move: National Makhana Board Officially Notified

Delivering on a key promise to the people of Bihar, Modi announced the official notification for the formation of the National Makhana Board, issued just a day before. The board will ensure fair prices, technological advancement, and a Rs. 475 crore development package for Bihar’s makhana farmers.

“I had promised the people of Bihar that a National Makhana Board would be formed. Yesterday, the Central Government issued the notification,” said the PM.

Boost to Housing and Rural Development

  • Over 40,000 new beneficiaries have received permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Bihar.
  • The PM reaffirmed his commitment to build 3 crore new houses, adding to the 4 crore already constructed in the last 11 years.
  • A new Community Investment Fund worth Rs. 500 crore was announced to empower women’s self-help groups.

Engineers’ Day Marked with a Vision for Developed India

On Engineers’ Day, Modi paid tribute to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, highlighting the critical role of engineers in shaping a Developed Bihar and Developed India. He praised the engineers for completing the Purnea Airport terminal in record time and driving large-scale infrastructure transformation.


 Economic Relief Ahead of Festivals: Major GST Cut Announced

In a festive-season gift to the poor and middle class, Modi announced a nationwide GST reduction, effective September 22, coinciding with Navratri. Key announcements:

  • Reduced GST on daily-use items like toothpaste, soap, ghee, and packaged food.
  • Cheaper stationery and educational materials.
  • Lower costs for footwear and clothing, easing expenses during Diwali and Chhath.

Strong Message on National Security and Infiltration

Modi launched a scathing attack on opposition parties, accusing them of defending illegal infiltrators for vote-bank politics.

“In India, it is the law of India that will prevail—not the whims of infiltrators. And this is Modi’s guarantee,” declared the Prime Minister.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to sealing borders and removing illegal infiltrators, citing the Demography Mission as a key step to safeguard Seemanchal, Bihar, Bengal, and Assam from demographic threats.


Empowering Women: From Victims to “Lakhpati Didis”

Modi praised the transformation of women in Bihar, noting their rise as economic leaders:

  • Women who once faced the worst of crime are now “Lakhpati Didis” and “Drone Didis”.
  • He credited the success of Jeevika Didi campaign and Nitish Kumar’s leadership in driving women-led development.
  • The newly announced ₹500 crore fund will further strengthen self-help groups across villages.

 Sharp Criticism of the Opposition

Modi accused opposition leaders of:

  • Betraying Bihar’s development for decades.
  • Mocking the state (citing a recent post comparing Bihar to a “bidi”).
  • Running governments where “85 paisa out of every rupee was lost to corruption”.
  • Ignoring the poor and building wealth for their own families.

“For them, their own families come first. For me, 130 crore Indians are my family,” said the PM.


National Pride: Operation Sindoor and Made-in-Bihar Engines

Recalling Bihar’s historic role in the freedom struggle, Modi said Purnea’s sons had once shown India’s strength to the British, and again now through Operation Sindoor. He lauded Bihar’s achievements:

  • Hosting Hockey Asia Cup in Rajgir.
  • Exporting rail engines made in Bihar to Africa.
  • Completion of the Aunta-Simaria bridge.

 Call to Action: “Bihar Must Lead India’s Development”

Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister urged the people of Bihar to continue supporting the momentum of development and reject those who only sought to defame or loot the state.
