Shimla:
A heart-wrenching landslide occurred in Baragata village, under Hada Boi Panchayat of Nihri Tehsil in Sundernagar Assembly constituency of Mandi district today, resulting in the death of three family members — two women and an 8-month-old infant. The incident was triggered by relentless heavy rains that caused a house to collapse and get completely buried under debris.
Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and senior Congress leader from Sundernagar, Sohan Lal Thakur, visited the affected site and met the bereaved family. Deeply moved by the tragedy, he stated, “This incident was extremely painful and shook everyone to the core. The sight was deeply emotional and heart-rending.”
Thakur also inspected the ongoing relief operations being carried out by the district administration. As an immediate response, the administration distributed Rs. 25,000 each as financial aid to the families of the deceased. In addition, essential relief materials, including food supplies, tarpaulins, and other necessary items, were provided to help the affected family survive this difficult period.
“In this moment of grief, we stand firmly with the family and pray for the peace of the departed souls,” Thakur said. He further added, “Let us pledge to stand sensitively with every family in pain, and work together to uphold the spirit of unity and compassion in our society.”
The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and support on social media.
Local authorities continue to monitor the region for any further risks of landslides, while residents in nearby areas have been urged to remain alert amid ongoing rains.
