35 Families Severely Affected by Natural Disaster in Dikaeling; Immediate Relief and Rehabilitation Demanded By Former MLA and senior BJP leader Ravi Thakur.
Shimla:
In the aftermath of a recent natural calamity that struck the Dikaeling region in Lahaul and Spiti district, around 35 families have been severely affected, with several homes suffering major structural damage and many deemed completely unsafe for habitation. Former MLA and senior BJP leader from Lahaul and Spiti, who visited the site on Friday, expressed deep concern over the distressing conditions of the victims and called for urgent government intervention.
During the visit, the affected families shared their ordeal, recounting how cracked walls, collapsed roofs, and unstable structures have forced many of them to relocate to rented accommodations, straining their already limited resources. Additionally, accumulated debris and diverted water flow from the nearby nala (stream) have created further safety and hygiene hazards in the area.
“The Pain of the People Is Heart-Wrenching”
Speaking after meeting the residents, the Ravi Thakur stated:
“It was extremely painful to witness the suffering of these families. Many have lost not only their homes but also their sense of safety and stability. The administration must act immediately to deliver relief and address the issues of blocked access roads and drainage channels.”
He added that a formal request has been made to the district administration to:
- Provide emergency relief supplies
- Clear debris and restore drainage systems
- Ensure long-term rehabilitation for the displaced families
Escalation to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju
In a significant development, it was also assured that the matter would be escalated to Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, to seek central assistance and ensure that the crisis is addressed at the highest level of governance.
“The plight of these families must not go unnoticed. I will ensure that their concerns reach the Government of India, and particularly Union Minister Kiran Rijiju, so that a sustainable and speedy solution can be achieved,” he said.
Commitment to Ongoing Support
Reiterating a strong commitment to stand by the affected people, the Ravi Thakur emphasized that he would personally advocate for their concerns until relief measures are implemented and normalcy is restored.
“I want to assure each affected family that their voice will be heard. I stand with them in this hour of need and will continue to work towards bringing every possible support from the administration and the government,” he concluded.
This disaster has once again highlighted the vulnerability of hilly regions to extreme weather events and underlines the importance of proactive disaster management, resilient infrastructure, and swift administrative response.
Local residents expressed gratitude for the visit and are hopeful that their suffering will be addressed with timely government support and rehabilitation assistance in the coming days.
