Himachal Pradesh Government to Modernize Diagnostic Facilities with Rs. 213.75 Crore Investment.
Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to upgrade diagnostic facilities across government health institutions in the state, with an investment of Rs. 213.75 crore. The initiative aims to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, enabling timely and accurate detection of diseases and ensuring early treatment for patients.
Delay in diagnosis often worsens medical conditions, and recognizing this, the Chief Minister has directed the Health Department to implement a large-scale modernization program. After multiple rounds of consultations with doctors from medical colleges and hospitals, the Health Department has finalized the blueprint for the project. Chief Minister Sukhu personally interacted with doctors at Chamiyana Hospital, IGMC Shimla, and Tanda Medical College to discuss the reforms and assess the requirements of the health sector.
Key Components of the Diagnostic Upgrade:
High-Resolution MRI Machines: Five state-of-the-art MRI machines worth Rs. 95 crore will be installed at IGMC Shimla, Chamiyana Hospital, Nerchowk Medical College, Nahan Medical College, and Chamba Medical College.
Advanced CT Imaging Machines: Two CT scanners will be installed in each of the seven medical colleges at a total cost of Rs. 28 crore.
Digital Radiography Units: Thirty-five DR units worth Rs. 8.75 crore will be set up, with five in each medical college.
Ceiling-Suspended DR X-Ray Machines: Fourteen units costing Rs. 14 crore.
Advanced Ultrasound Machines: Two per medical college at a total cost of Rs. 14 crore.
Digital Mammography Units: Seven units worth Rs. 14 crore across the seven medical colleges.
Imaging Archive and Retrieval Technology (IART) Systems: Eight systems valued at Rs. 40 crore to be installed in seven medical colleges and Kamla Nehru Hospital, Shimla.
According to a Health Department spokesperson, the government’s primary focus is to provide high-quality healthcare within the state, reducing the need for patients to travel outside Himachal Pradesh for expensive medical treatments. The initiative reflects the vision of the Chief Minister to make advanced healthcare accessible and affordable for all citizens.
In addition to upgrading diagnostic infrastructure, the state government is addressing manpower shortages by filling vacant posts for doctors, paramedical staff, and technicians. Special emphasis is being placed on professional training programs to enhance the efficiency and skills of healthcare professionals.
With this major investment and strategic reforms, Himachal Pradesh aims to strengthen its healthcare system, improve patient outcomes, and ensure that modern diagnostic facilities are available across all government medical institutions in the state.
