The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a significant step toward promoting adventure tourism by legalizing zipline activities under the State’s eco-tourism policy, marking a major relief for tourism entrepreneurs and adventure operators.

Sharing this information, Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana said that until now, there was no formal mechanism to legalize or regulate zipline operations in the State. This lack of regulation had created numerous challenges for local tourism stakeholders, particularly concerning safety protocols and permissions.

She added that due to the absence of a legal framework, operators often faced administrative hurdles and uncertainty, while the possibility of accidents posed further complications. Recognizing these issues, the matter was brought to the government’s attention, following which the State government took the decision to bring zipline activities under the Eco-Tourism framework.

MLA Rana expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his proactive approach and timely intervention. “The government’s decision to include zipline activities under eco-tourism will not only ensure safety and regulation but also open new avenues for local employment and sustainable adventure tourism,” she said.

Following this policy decision, several local applicants have submitted proposals to operate zipline facilities legally. The administration has been directed to process these applications on a fast-track basis, ensuring that all pending applications with completed formalities are cleared promptly.

Anuradha Rana further stated that the administration has already disposed of several applications that met all required criteria and that remaining cases will also be expedited. She emphasized that local youth would receive full cooperation and support in establishing and operating these ventures.

The move is expected to significantly boost adventure and eco-tourism in Lahaul-Spiti and other parts of Himachal Pradesh, promoting safe, regulated, and sustainable adventure tourism activities in the State.
