CM Sukhu Orders Full Salary for AYUSH Doctors Pursuing Post-Graduation.
Focus on Wellness Tourism and Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure.
Shimla:
In a major decision aimed at strengthening the AYUSH sector and promoting wellness-based healthcare, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed that doctors pursuing post-graduation under the AYUSH Department will now receive 100 percent of their salary, reversing the earlier notification that allowed only 40 percent pay.
The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting of the AYUSH Department held in Shimla on Tuesday. The Chief Minister emphasized that this decision reflects the State Government’s commitment to enhancing professional growth opportunities for AYUSH doctors while ensuring quality healthcare services for the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Highlighting the government’s broader vision, CM Sukhu said that Himachal Pradesh has immense potential for wellness tourism, owing to its serene climate and natural beauty. He directed the department to identify and strengthen AYUSH health institutions with higher outpatient (OPD) turnout. “Facilities witnessing high patient inflow should be provided with adequate staff and improved amenities to serve people more effectively,” he stated.
To ensure better patient management and transparency, the Chief Minister instructed officials to integrate patient data with HIM Parivar numbers, enabling seamless tracking and efficient service delivery.
CM Sukhu further revealed that the government is actively considering the establishment of a new AYUSH College in Nahan and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the Ayurvedic College at Paprola, including the early filling of all vacant posts.
In a move to promote holistic wellness practices, the Chief Minister also directed the development of herbal gardens in high-altitude regions like Spiti Valley, leveraging the region’s unique biodiversity. Additionally, he instructed the introduction of yoga classes in Balika Ashrams (Girls’ Homes) and Old Age Homes across the state to enhance physical and mental well-being among residents.
AYUSH Minister Yadvinder Goma, Secretary A. Shainamol, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Director Rohit Jamwal, and other senior departmental officials attended the meeting.
The decision marks another step in the state government’s efforts to make Himachal Pradesh a hub of wellness tourism and alternative medicine, aligning traditional healing systems with modern governance and public welfare initiatives.
