Tenzin Dolma Wins Silver at Asia–Oceania Championship in Thailand; Lahaul–Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana Provided Financial Support.
Shimla:
India’s rising ultra-runner Tenzin Dolma, originally from Spiti and currently residing in Palchan near Manali, has brought laurels to the country by winning a silver medal at the Asia–Oceania Athletic Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dolma delivered an outstanding performance in the gruelling 100-km ultra-run held on 22 November, completing the distance in 9 hours and 18 minutes to secure second place on the podium. Her achievement is being celebrated across Lahaul–Spiti and Himachal Pradesh, marking another milestone for the region’s growing presence in international endurance sports.
However, reaching the international competition was not easy. Facing financial constraints, Tenzin struggled to gather resources required for travel and participation. Stepping in to support the promising athlete, Lahaul–Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana extended assistance of Rs. 50,000, enabling her to travel to Bangkok and compete at the championship.
Congratulating the Tenzin, MLA Rana said encouraging talented youth from tribal regions remains one of her priorities. “Our district has many gifted sportspersons who have the potential to bring glory to the state and the nation. We will ensure they receive every possible support,” she said, praising Tezin’s remarkable performance.
Tenzin Dolma’s success has sparked joy throughout the district, with local communities and sports enthusiasts celebrating her determination and international achievement.
