Congress Claims Vindication After Court Order on AJL Properties; Slams Centre for Political Vendetta.
New Delhi:
The Congress today said that the “illegality” of the Narendra Modi government and its “politically motivated prosecution” had been fully exposed, reacting to a court order concerning properties of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the company that publishes the National Herald newspaper.
According to the Congress, properties worth approximately Rs. 2,000 crore belonging to AJL were at the centre of the case being pursued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The party asserted that the court’s observations had dealt a blow to the agency’s proceedings against senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
In a statement issued after the order, the Congress claimed that the ED’s actions against its leadership were found to be “completely illegal and mala fide.” The party alleged that the case was driven by political considerations rather than legal merit and accused the central government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition leaders.
“The proceedings initiated by the ED against the Congress leadership in the National Herald case stand exposed,” the statement said, adding that the order reaffirmed the party’s long-held position that the case was a result of “vendetta politics.”
The Congress further accused the Modi government of undermining democratic institutions and using central agencies to harass political opponents. It said the order should serve as a reminder that “truth and justice cannot be suppressed through intimidation.”
The ED has been investigating the AJL case in connection with alleged financial irregularities, while the Congress has consistently denied any wrongdoing and maintained that the National Herald case is politically motivated.
