In a landmark move aimed at transforming the state’s healthcare landscape, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today reaffirmed his government’s commitment to a comprehensive ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ in healthcare services. Speaking at a state-level healthcare event, the Chief Minister highlighted several initiatives designed to make advanced medical facilities accessible to all citizens of Himachal Pradesh.

One of the flagship measures announced is the launch of dedicated Senior Citizen OPDs, which provide specialized consultation slots for citizens above the age of 70. These clinics, now operational across major hospitals, are expected to eliminate long waiting hours for the elderly and ensure prompt medical attention.

In a significant boost to specialized medical care, the government allocated Rs. 5 crore each to five premier medical institutions – IGMC Shimla, and medical colleges in Tanda, Hamirpur, Ner Chowk, and AIMSS Chamiyana – to establish dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) infrastructure. Additionally, Rs. 75 crore has been sanctioned for AI-equipped smart laboratories at IGMC and Tanda, which will streamline diagnostics and drastically reduce patient wait times through automation.

Addressing the healthcare needs of younger patients, the government has initiated the Advanced Pediatric Centre at AIMSS Chamiyana, aimed at delivering world-class child healthcare services within the state. Highlighting the state’s proactive public health measures, the Chief Minister also noted the successful execution of a massive Pulse Polio Campaign starting December 21, including intensive door-to-door “mop-up” operations to ensure 100% immunization coverage.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the Rs. 3,000 crore investment in health services is designed to ensure that citizens no longer need to travel outside Himachal Pradesh for advanced medical procedures. A historic milestone was also marked with the operationalization of robotic surgeries at AIMSS Chamiyana and Tanda Medical College – a first for the state’s public health sector. Plans are already underway to expand robotic surgical facilities to all medical colleges across the state by early 2026.

“These updates are part of a broader strategy to make Himachal Pradesh a hub for medical excellence,” the Chief Minister said, emphasizing that the government’s vision is to provide dignified, high-quality treatment to every citizen, from remote mountain villages to urban centers. He added that integrating AI diagnostics, specialized geriatric care, and advanced surgical technology reflects the state’s transition toward a model health system where cutting-edge medical technology and compassionate care coexist.

The Chief Minister concluded by stating that the government remains committed to creating a resilient and equitable health system that prioritizes vulnerable populations, marking a new era in the healthcare journey of Himachal Pradesh.
