Himachal International Film Festival to light up Mandi from June 27 to 30.
Shimla:
Mandi, known as the cultural capital of the state, is set to host its first-ever film festival. Organized jointly by filmmaker Pawan Sharma, in collaboration with Raja Singh Rattan Jeweller, the Himachal International Film Festiva will showcase acclaimed national and international films to the audience.
Talking to media persons on Saturday, Pawan Sharma emphasized the festival’s goal of bringing quality films to the people, highlighting cinema’s role as a mirror of society. The festival aims to present and reward nationally and internationally acclaimed films while also showcasing and honoring the contributions of artists, literary figures, and intellectuals in the field of arts.
The festival’s inaugural day will be dedicated to Himachali films, focusing on narratives rooted in the state’s culture, natural beauty, and way of life. Films like “The Rabbit House,” based on a village in Kullu district, exemplify this focus on local stories, characters, and social issues. The festival will also recognize veterans like Niraj Sood and Sapna, who have made their mark in the film industry from Mandi. Additionally, the festival will feature discussions with renowned film critics and artists, delving into the social impact of cinema.
Pawan Sharma said that alongside film screenings, a rally will be organized in Mandi to unite the city’s cultural organizations, while historic buildings like the Bijai High School will be transformed into centers for art conservation and development. The festival will also provide school children with the opportunity to watch films, facilitated by the Education Department.
During the event, Mandi’s renowned artists will be honored with lifetime achievement awards.
