Heritage Walk Launched in Mandi During International Shivratri Festival to Showcase 500 Years of Cultural Legacy.
Shimla:
In a significant initiative to connect the public with the rich historical, social, and religious heritage of Mandi town, a Heritage Walk is being organized for the first time during the International Shivratri Festival. The event is being held as the historic town approaches the landmark of completing 500 years since its establishment, marking a proud milestone in its illustrious journey.
The Heritage Walk aims to provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to closely explore and understand Mandi’s centuries-old cultural identity, architectural splendor, and deep-rooted spiritual traditions. Known for its ancient temples and distinctive hill architecture, Mandi has long been regarded as a cultural and religious hub in Himachal Pradesh.
The walk will be conducted on February 15, 17, 18, and 20, with two sessions scheduled each day. The first session will begin at 10:30 a.m., while the second session will commence at 2:30 p.m.
The route of the Heritage Walk will start from Seri Stage and pass through several historically and religiously significant landmarks, including Raj Mahal, Madhorai Temple, Baba Bhootnath Temple, Panchvaktra Temple, Hanumanghat, Khua Rani Temple, Ardhnarishwar Temple, Trilokinath Temple, Mahamrityunjay Temple, Tarna Devi Temple, Barsille, and Ganpati Temple. The walk will conclude at the iconic Clock Tower and Indira Market (Siddhakali Temple).
To ensure the convenience of participants, organizers have arranged small vehicles for certain segments of the route. While some locations will be explored on foot to allow a closer experience of the heritage sites, other stretches will be covered by vehicle to make the journey comfortable and accessible for all age groups.
As Mandi stands on the threshold of completing 500 years of its existence, the town continues to preserve its vibrant traditions, ancient temples, unique architectural styles, and rich spiritual heritage. The Heritage Walk is envisioned as a meaningful step toward promoting awareness and appreciation of the city’s enduring legacy among the public.
Participation in the Heritage Walk is limited, and prior registration is mandatory. Registration is free of cost. Interested individuals can register by contacting 9418123001 or 9805373758.
During the walk, participants will be guided by Satya Mahesh, a noted scholar and author who has written extensively on the temples and history of Mandi. His expertise is expected to offer valuable insights into the historical significance and cultural narratives associated with the town’s prominent landmarks.
The initiative is expected to add a new dimension to the celebrations of the International Shivratri Festival while reinforcing Mandi’s identity as a city of temples and timeless heritage.
